Check Your HVAC Filters for AC Maintenance
In most homes, filters should be changed between one and three months. The more people and pets in your home, the more often you’ll need to replace your filter. If you can’t see filter material through the dirt, change the filter. Don’t operate your system with a dirty filter. It could damage your equipment and pollute your indoor air.
Flush Out the Condensation Line
If the condensation line gets clogged, water can back up into your home. Puddles on the floor, leaks in your ceiling and damage to your drywall could all be caused by a clogged condensation line. Minimize this possibility by pouring a half-cup of bleach, distilled white vinegar or peroxide, diluted with half-cup of water into the drain line to eliminate any build-up of sludge or biologic matter.
Inspect the Outdoor Unit for AC Maintenance
It’s easy to forget about the AC outdoor unit, especially if it’s hidden from view. However, these three tasks are easy and require little effort:
- Check that the unit is firmly positioned on a level surface.
- Cut all foliage three feet back from the unit and clear away any debris.
- Turn the unit off. Gently rinse the dirt from the outside of the unit starting at the top and working your way down.
Monitor Your Air Conditioner
